The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is exploring a significant opportunity to address growing student enrolment and improve learning environments for our St. Rita, St. Augustine, and St. Gregory school communities.
We’re seeking input on a proposed accommodation plan which includes the acquisition of the former Century Public School property (8 Redpine Drive) from the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and reopening it as a new OCSB elementary school. Your input from this process will help staff develop recommendations for the Board, preparing for a provincial Capital Priorities funding request expected in fall 2025.
Key Highlights of the Proposed Accommodation Plan and Century PS Acquisition:
Increases Capacity & Reduces Portables: This plan directly addresses school capacity challenges by acquiring Century PS, creating permanent space and significantly reducing the need for portable classrooms at St. Rita, St. Augustine, and St. Gregory.
Cost-Efficient & Sustainable Growth: Acquiring Century PS is a more affordable and sustainable way to manage the OCSB’s growing student population.
Feeder Patterns Remain: Current student pathways to Frank Ryan Intermediate and St. Pius X High School will not change.
Preliminary Attendance Areas (Subject to Future Consultation):
With the proposed acquisition of Century PS, the accommodation plan introduces a preliminary proposal to adjust school attendance areas, helping to better align student enrolment to school capacities.
St. Augustine School: Would serve students residing in the portion of its current joint attendance boundary located east of Fisher Avenue.
St. Rita School and the new OCSB Century School: These two schools would collectively serve a geographic area generally bounded by Baseline Road to the north, Merivale Road to the west, Fisher Avenue to the east, and the CN rail line to the south.
St. Gregory School: Portions of its current attendance boundary located east of Merivale Road would be redirected to the new OCSB Century School. This would reduce St. Gregory’s enrolment and its reliance on portable classrooms.
Important Note: These are preliminary attendance area proposals presented for context within the overall accommodation plan. Detailed attendance boundary revisions and student movement would be the subject of a separate, dedicated local consultation process later, if the Century PS acquisition is approved and funded.
